Nagoya Castle built by Tokugawa Ieyasu has been designated a national Special Historic Site.
We encourage you to go see the golden shachihoko that shimmers in gold, or the Honmaru palace which is a masterpiece of the modern castle palace, and to watch the Nagoya Omotenashi Bushotai event.
Kinshachi Yokocho, composed of two zones, namely the Yoshinao Zone, where you can eat classic and long-established Nagoya meals, and the Muneharu Zone, where you can enjoy Nagoya’s new food culture, is located around the Nagoya Castle moat.
We also recommend our guests to take home our popular souvenirs such as senbei (sweets made mainly from rice and wheat). This is a local favorite.
In Hōsa in the Nagoya Noh Theater near the front of Nagoya Castle, you can enjoy Japanese afternoon tea (advance reservation required) (known locally as Wafternoon tea) and meals.
Osu Kannon was transferred from Toba City, Gifu Prefecture to Osu by Tokugawa Ieyasu. The official name is “Kitanosan Shinpukuji Hoseiin Temple.” It follows the trend of the Kitano Tenman-gu Shrine. Students in Japan also visit in hopes it will aid them in passing their entrance examinations and attain academic achievements.
Also, there is a shopping street just a short distance from Osu Kannon. Enjoy a relaxing stroll, while snacking and shopping.
